| The truth is that you have to hunt high and low for examples of "failed" prophecy. Well, good friend, I guess I'd still lean toward trusting prophecy to be specifically resolved as spoken than just assume that God's going to shift or adapt one more time. Isn't that logical?
But, the larger issue relates to your intention in being a student of prophecy. It will be little consolation in Hell to look at the person next to you as the flames start to flicker at your toes and be able to say, "Hey, my understanding of prophetic issues was closer to the real fulfillment than yours!"
Who cares?
It's all about relationship. It's all about knowing God (through the best revelation of God this world is ever going to see- Jesus of Nazareth.)
When the Lord condemns the braggarts in Matthew 7 (not for being liars about their religious accomplishments, but rather because they were never friends with Him) He said "I never knew you." You'll notice that it means that God doesn't deny their claim of holy activity, He just can't acknowledge them as children... and couldn't EVEN WHEN THEY WERE DOING ALL THEIR HOLY THINGS! Wow!
Friend, you've only got so many bullets to shoot in the war. Don't waste any of them on things that are, ultimately, less productive. To me, becoming a prophecy guru is a whole lot less important than whether or not you have a comfortable and growing closeness with God. (And it appears, according to Jesus, that mine is not a unique opinion.) |
